May and June Action Items for Raleigh Park
Write a letter to the School Board and Superintendent Balderas
We are at the beginning of community discussions with the district to define what our schools and neighborhoods will look like for generations. Consolidation will change our communities and impact the education experience of our students for decades to come.
We are relieved that the pause will give the district time to think about designing a process that reflects the district values. This pause also gives our community time to communicate our questions, concerns, and experiences.

Budget Meeting at 5:45PM
School Board Meeting at 7:00PM
Attending a school board meeting keeps the issue of school closures and reconsideration of EDSPEC in the front of mind for our district leadership. The BSD School Board exists to represent community interests to BSD. They will have an integral role in the process moving forward including the need to approve any school closures. The Budget meeting is open to the public and is immediately before the School Board Meeting next Tuesday.
You can testify at a school board meeting
You have a right to be heard at a school board meeting. You can testify publicly or submit written testimony. If you want to know what it is like to give public testimony, we are happy to share our experiences.
Upcoming board meetings are listed here.
The Public Testimony Protocol is listed here.

Eat at Raleigh Hills McMenamins 5PM to close
Restaurant night is back, and 60% of ALL SALES on Wednesday after 5PM will be donated to Raleigh Park PTO. If you want to order takeout, make sure to let them know that you are with Raleigh Park, and they will count your order towards our fundraiser, too! The big question is regular or cajun tots. This is the type of tough question I’m ready for next week!
Make sure to say goodbye to the wonderful manager, Magan. She has been an awesome supporter of ours, and she’s moving over to the Kennedy School.
Wednesday, May 29th
Bond Accountability Meeting
There have been lots of questions about the School Bond throughout this process. The Bond Accountability Meetings are open to the public. This is a citizen committee that plays a role in monitoring of the bond program.
You can make public comments to this committee just as you can other BSD committees. You can find out more about the committee here. They also provide a virtual viewing here.
Thursday, May 30th
5th Grade Musical
School Assembly, 5th Grade Musical, 8:15-8:35am
5th Grade Musical w/ Ms. Risser, 6:00pm
The 5th graders have been working hard on their musical with Ms. Risser. You are welcome to attend their performance at both the School Assembly and the evening performance. No admission cost!
Complete the Safe Routes to School Survey
We saw that one of the metrics used to evaluate schools are walkability and impact of transportation costs. This year it is especially important to take the Safe Routes Survey! We love seeing kids walk and bike to school. We’ve also heard interest in formalizing our informal biking and walking routes with a walking or biking bus! If you’re interesting in helping coordinate that, let me know by replying to this email!
June Action Items
Thursday June 6th at 7PM
Get Involved Info Session (and PTO Meeting)
You all continue to ask really good questions that have resulted in the district changing their process to pause to listen. We take the district on their word that they will reconsider a open process starting with the student at the center of the conversation. This is a marathon — let’s talk about the path forward. And since this is an offsite, bring a bottle of wine or snack to share!
We’re looking at a few options and are wondering about turnout. Please let us know if you are planning to attend. We’ll follow up next week with a location.
Please RSVP so we can plan for the right size room
Friday June 7th
Field Day at Raleigh Park!
Field day is a really fun day for kids and is run by lots of our wonderful volunteers. We’ve divided the day into two shifts plus set up.
Wednesday, June 12th
Last day for students, 5th Grade Clap Out
5th Grade Recognition Assembly, 8:15-8:35am
End-of-Year Clap-Out, 2:35pm
If you are a 5th grade parent, you should have received an email about the 5th grade Party in the Park and a snack sign up for that. Contact Karen Eggert with any questions. Her contact info is in the link above.
Join a BSD Committee
If our community has learned anything over the past couple of weeks, it is that getting involved with district committees has impact and provides insight. Thank you to the number of parents who already volunteer to sit on a district committee.
We expect there will be new committees formed in the fall to explore school closure options. There are also currently committees established for: Equity Advisory Committee, Bond Accountability Committee, and Facilities Planning Committee. Each committee has its own charter and terms. If you would like to get involved with a district committee, please reach out to one of your PTO officers or to Princpal Mori.
